Learn Simple Cold And Flu Remedies To Prevent Getting Sick

Lake Oswego cold and flu remedies

It is officially cold and flu season, yikes! I would say most of the patients that have come to the clinic in the past 2 weeks have been sick.

Getting sick with a cold or flu is the worst! Sometimes it can even last for weeks leaving you weak and most likely fed-up. Staying home sick in bed is not how you want to be spending your time.

Did you know you can stop the cold/flu before it knocks you down with simple remedies?

The most important thing to do is to support your immune system during the cold and flu season and stay healthy with a proper diet, exercise, quality sleep, and less stress. With the many possibilities of exposure to these viruses and bacteria’s, it is important to become aware of the early symptoms and signs of a cold/flu and take immediate action.

Listed are the early symptoms to pay close attention to:

Unusual fatigue

Stiff neck

Slight tickle or itch in the throat

Slight cough

Beginnings of a runny nose

So how do you fight off that cold or flu? Here are some simple remedies to stop a cold/flu:

  1. Wash your hands as much as possible especially when you are out in public. Keep hand sanitizer accessible and use for a quick disinfectant. Extra tip is to avoid touching your face especially your eyes, nose, and mouth so pathogens can't easily enter your body.

  2. Load up on Vitamin C, but make sure it is food based. Make sure your diet is rich in Vitamin C foods since your body doesn't make it. Consume foods red bell peppers, oranges, broccoli, kale, and Sauerkraut.

  3. Avoid sugars. Sugar will weaken your immune system, which is one reason why so many people get sick during the holidays.

  4. Get plenty of rest. This will allow your immune system to fight like a ninja and defeat the cold/flu.

  5. Keep your stress low. Stress will also weaken your immune system.

  6. Consume garlic. Garlic is your friend when it comes to fighting bugs. Make sure to crush a clove of garlic and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to activate the medicinal properties. Add it to your dishes or swallow just before your meal.

  7. Additional supplements to take are Vitamin D and zinc to boost your immune system.

  8. Immediately schedule for acupuncture and receive prescribed botanical medicine to the cold in its tracks fast. Acupuncture will strongly stimulate your immune system. It can reduce symptoms like sinus congestion, irritated throat, and cough. Botanical medicine is very potent medicine especially when it comes to colds and flu's. With the proper diagnosis from a Medical Pulse evaluation, the correct formulas are prescribed to stop it in it’s tracks fast. Cupping on the back is a good therapy as well, which will break up congestion and stimulate the immune system.

Working in a clinic and being exposed to many viruses and bacteria’s, I personally load up on Vitamin C, get lots of rest, exercise, eat clean, and take botanical medicine, which usually does the job if I catch it early. I know I will have a difficult time if I am run down and not taking care of myself.

Hope you stay healthy this season. If you start to feel run down or notice the early symptoms, please immediately contact the Lake Oswego clinic for cold and flu treatments so we can stop the cold/flu in its tracks fast.
